In Blumhouse’s DROP, a single date-night notification spirals into a high-stakes game of survival.
To bring this digital nightmare to life, we collaborated with Universal Pictures and created a set of gamified event ticketing microsites to support their experiential campaign that played upon the film's core tension: the vulnerability of our ""always-on"" devices.
Targeting tech-native college students and influencers across the US, Universal Pictures leveraged short-range NFC wireless technology to turn static marketing materials into contactless active touch-points. They invited users to bypass the safety of their settings and engage with the unknown to unlock exclusive, secret screenings!
Building on the concept of a hijacked mobile experience, users were instantaneously directed to our spoof iOS Home Screen after tapping their phones against NFC-enabled wild postings and bar coasters.
Our immersive web app featured a fully responsive time / date display and haptic vibration feedback, further blurring the line between the user’s actual device and the film’s Digi-Drop interface.
Echoing the antagonist’s tactics in the movie, we leaned into the film’s core themes of paranoia and tension by sending users a series of cryptic, unsettling memes through an interactive quiz. At the end of the experience, users were rewarded with tickets for access to early screenings and murder mystery events at college campuses and SXSW.
For the movie’s LA premiere, we extended this theme into the physical space through a CCTV photobooth, which captured attendees in a ‘live’ surveillance-style aesthetic. The outcome: "Stalker Shareables” that ensured the film's voyeuristic themes dominated social feeds!

By leaning into the cultural phenomenon of AirDrop pranks and digital privacy anxiety, Universal Pictures transformed a standard movie promotion into a tangible, suspenseful thrill.
The use of NFC technology provided a frictionless, magic moment of connectivity; more in-sync with the film’s DNA than a standard QR code.
Blurring the lines between marketing and reality, our bespoke microsites - from iOS quiz hijacks to the voyeuristic CCTV photobooth - sucked fans directly into the world of the film to deliver real tangible, suspenseful thrill.
The campaign successfully generated grassroots hype among key demographics and influencers. Passive audiences were transformed into active characters in their own real-life thrillers and filled secret screenings, positioning the film as a must-see for a generation defined by their smartphones.
